City Enhances Customer Service & Updates Public on Policies

Newsflash 2022

The City of Portland is pleased to announce that it has enhanced customer service for those visiting City Hall to conduct services by having two greeters located at the Congress Street and Myrtle Street entrances. The greeter station is staffed when the building is open to the public from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

As of Monday, March 14, masks are recommended, but not required when visiting City Hall and the City’s Canco Road facilities. This applies to members of the public as well as staff. Masks continue to be required when visiting the Health & Human Services department at 39 Forest Avenue. Masking requirements may return for everyone if Cumberland County’s risk level returns to High and/or the CDC changes its guidance again.

Accessing City Services
The City’s Treasury Office, which processes auto and boat registrations as well as property tax payments, is open by appointment only. Utilizing an appointment only system has proven to be quite successful with customers as they no longer have to wait in long lines and can make an appointment that works for their schedule. Auto renewals and property tax payments can be paid online, and those wishing to drop off property tax payments in person can leave them in a secure drop box at the Congress Street entrance. The second installment of FY22 property tax payments is due Friday, March 18.

The City Clerk’s Office and Parking Office are open for walk-in service. The City Clerk’s Office can be accessed via either the Congress St or Myrtle St entrance, and the Parking Office is best reached via the Myrtle St entrance. Remaining city services can be accessed either online or by checking in at one of the greeter stations.

Updated Policies at City-Owned Event Venues
Effective March 14, the City has updated its safety protocols for events at its indoor facilities, which includes Merrill Auditorium, the James A. Banks Sr. Portland Expo Building, and Ocean Gateway. Following the latest CDC guidance, the City is lifting its masking mandate at these venues. Masking is still recommended for those who may be at high risk. The City’s venues are mask friendly, and we welcome those who continue to wear a mask.

The vaccination policy remains in place for now. This policy states that all attendees ages 5 and over will be required to provide proof of COVID vaccination or provide printed proof of a negative COVID PCR test from an authorized provider within 72 hours prior to the event start time or a  negative rapid test within 12 hours prior to the event start time. A photo ID is also required. Accepted proof of vaccination includes the original vaccination card, a printed copy of vaccination card, or a digital photograph of the vaccination card. The final dose of the vaccine must have been administered more than 14 days prior to event start time.

Please note that some events may require additional health and safety protocols, depending on requests from the artist, event organizer, promoter, or league. Please inquire with specific ticket providers, event organizers, promoters, and teams to review any additional requirements.
