Olmsted 200 Celebration

The Portland Parks Conservancy and more than 15 of the City’s 'Park Friends' groups are coming together to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Frederick Law Olmsted’s birth in 1822. Olmsted designed New York’s Central Park and Boston’s Emerald Necklace.  Several of Portland’s parks were inspired by his vision and the work of his firm, so the groups are developing events in parks all across our City.
Activities will kick off on April 26—the actual anniversary of Olmsted’s birth.  A wide variety of events will take place throughout the spring and summer—some will be celebratory; others may be provocative.  And they’ll focus on the future of Portland’s park system as well as its past.

Events are still being planned, but you can check the Portland Parks Conservancy website for the developing schedule.
