Barron Center Achieves Five-Star Medicare Rating

portland news

The City of Portland is thrilled to announce that the Barron Center, the City’s 219-bed long-term skilled rehabilitation facility, has earned a five star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. CMS created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and to help identify areas about which to ask questions. The Barron Center’s score improved from a three-star rating in 2019, no small feat in light of the pandemic.

“I’m so proud of the staff at the Barron Center for their hard work and dedication to our residents,” said Kristen Dow, Director of the City’s Health & Human Services Department. “I want to thank them for the work they do each and every day. It is because of them that we were able to improve to a five-star rating.”

The Nursing Home Compare website features a quality rating system that gives each nursing home a rating of between 1 and 5 stars. Nursing homes with five stars are considered to have much above average quality and nursing homes with one star are considered to have quality much below average. There is one Overall 5-star rating for each nursing home, and a separate rating for health inspections, staffing, and quality measures.
