Mayor Outlines Process for Establishing Charter Commission Members

Mayor Kate Snyder and the Portland City Council will hold a special remote City Council meeting on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 5:30 PM for the purpose of voting on a resolution to create an Ad Hoc Committee. The Ad Hoc Committee’s charge would be to advance a slate of names for the Council’s consideration in response to the requirement that the Council appoint three members of the soon to be established Charter Commission. The City Council has 30 days in which to appoint these members. The Council will also determine the number and method to be used for electing the remaining voter members of the Commission.

The City Council will then meet remotely on Monday, August 10, at 5:30 PM in another special meeting for the purpose of taking action and voting on the three Council appointees to the Charter Commission and action on the method in which to elect voter members to the Charter Commission.

Information on how to join the meetings via Zoom will be included in the agendas. Agendas will be posted by the Friday before the meetings in the City’s Agenda Portal
