Mayor Snyder Adds Tenant & Landlord Resources to City’s COVID-19 Webpage

Covid-19 Updates Portland, Maine 04101

Building off of the City Council’s March 30th approval of an Emergency Order, Mayor Kate Snyder has compiled a comprehensive list of resources available to tenants and landlords in light of COVID-19. The Emergency Order requests landlords in Portland to rescind or suspend all terminations of all leases or tenancies, including tenancies at will (both residential and commercial) for non-payment of rent beginning March 1, 2020 until 30 days after the termination of the order, if the tenant is able to show an inability to pay rent due to circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The list is available from the City’s dedicated COVID-19 Resource Page and outlines various resources available at the city, state, and federal level. The page will continue to be updated as new information becomes available.

“The impacts on housing security in Portland as a result of COVID-19 are significant,” said Mayor Snyder. “As we make our way through these very difficult days, I want Portland residents to have as much information as possible, in one place. There are city, state and federal resources available that can help. Additionally, I encourage both landlords and tenants to communicate openly in pursuit of short and longer-term solutions that keep people and families safe and housed.”
