The Search is On! Portland Seeks Tree for Monument Square

Monument Square Holidays

Donors can submit their tree for consideration at portlandmaine.com/tree

It’s hard to believe, but it’s that time of year again. Portland Downtown and the City of Portland are seeking the next “perfect tree” to grace Monument Square. The tree will be illuminated on Friday, November 30th — wowing thousands of spectators and officially kicking off the holiday season in beautiful downtown Portland.

Residents and property owners who wish to donate a tree are encouraged to submit the tree for consideration at portlandmaine.com/tree. The ideal tree will:

  • Be located in Greater Portland (including Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough, Gorham, Westbrook, Falmouth, Cumberland or Yarmouth);

  • Be evergreen, spruce, or fir;

  • Be 45-60 feet tall; and

  • Be relatively accessible for retrieval (i.e. free from power lines and other obstructions).

The “winning” tree will be removed and transported from the owner’s property at no cost. The tree donor will receive some fun perks, including complimentary tickets to Merry Madness on Dec. 5th.

Trees should be submitted for consideration at portlandmaine.com/tree as soon as possible and no later than November 1. Thank you in advance for helping us bring holiday cheer downtown!
