City Streamlines Annual Tax Billing Process - September Bills Delayed

portland news

The City of Portland is streamlining the annual tax billing process to create greater efficiency and lower overall costs. Beginning with the FY20 tax bills, which will be mailed in early September 2019, residents will receive a single annual tax bill with two payment coupons.  In previous fiscal years the City incurred significant additional staff, supplies, and postage cost by mailing two separate bills semiannually.  The City website has also recently been updated to make all tax information available to the public at any time, 365 days a year at the following link:

During the first year of transition the City will be mailing the annual tax bills in early September, rather than the traditional August mailing date.  First half tax bill due dates will be adjusted accordingly, with payment not due until October 18, 2019 vs the standard mid-September due date.  The March 20, 2020 second half bill due date remains unchanged.

Complete details on the change will be included in the September tax mailing.  In the first year of implementation a reminder postcard will be sent to residents in February 2020.
