[ARCHIVED] Portland Police to Participate in Regional Active Shooter Training at Deering High Saturday, May 18

EMERGENCY training exercise

The Portland Police Department will participate in a regional active shooter training at Deering High School, 370 Stevens Avenue, this Saturday, May 18, 2019. Those in the area will see increased activity around Deering High and Longfellow School starting at approximately 6:00 AM and ending at approximately 3:00 PM.

This training is not open to the general public. Citizens will not be allowed to observe on school property. Media is welcome to attend and will be directed to a media staging area located at the Ludlow Street parking lot upon arrival. Any media with questions should contact Sergeant Dan Hayden, Portland PD, at 207-874-8590. 

Parking will be restricted on both sides of Stevens Avenue near Deering High School on May 18th from approximately 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Emergency “No Parking” signs will be posted.

Residents in the area of Pleasant Avenue and Concord Street West may see a large number of emergency vehicles in their neighborhood between the hours of 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM.

DO NOT be alarmed if you hear the sounds of simulated gunshots coming from Deering High School between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM. It is part of the training. The training will be restricted to the school grounds. If you experience an emergency during the training hours please dial 911. 

The training is being led by the District II Training Council and includes law enforcement and first responders from Cumberland and York Counties.
