Park Avenue Separated Bike Lane & Streetscape Project Gets Underway

Under Construction

Over the next three weeks, the City of Portland’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will begin the installation of the Park Avenue Separated Bike Lane & Streetscape Project. This work is largely weather-dependent, but the goal is to complete the project before school begins. The project is intended to improve multi-modal safety for all and will include:

  • Removal of old paint

  • Applying new paint (lines, symbols & green paint)

  • Temporary parking restrictions to allow for work in road

  • Temporary lane shifts for work in road

  • Final lane and parking reconfiguration

  • Sign changes

  • Bollard installation (Flexible posts in buffer for lane separation)

The streetscape project will modify Park Avenue by providing three consistent, narrower, vehicle lanes between Valley Street and Forest Avenue, reconfiguringing on-street parking and adding a separated bike lane in each direction. These changes will be made with paint, bollards (flexible posts) and new signage.

The project will complete the link between bike facilities on Portland Street, St. John Street and the rest of Park Avenue. This effort is part of a larger plan by the City to increase transportation options for all, connecting and growing the city’s bicycle network, and improving safety for all road users living, working and traveling in the Parkside neighborhood.
