2018 Cruise Season Officially Gets Underway with Arrival of Artania

2018 Cruise Ship Season

The 2018 cruise season officially began today with the arrival of the Artania with 1,200 passengers and more than 500 crew members. Portland will see two other ship visits in April and nine ships in May before really kicking into high gear over the summer months.

Portland continues to see growth in the industry with 118 cruise ship visits expected this year, the largest number of ships the city has ever hosted. The 2017 season saw the arrival of 103 ships. This year, the season spans from April to November bringing more than 170,000 passengers and more than 66,000 crew members.

The cruise ship activity is in addition to The Cat, which will ferry visitors daily between Portland and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia beginning in June.

This also marks the third year of the City’s Waterfront Marketplace where local street vendors and artists can set up their displays between Ocean Gateway and the Portland Ocean Terminal on cruise ship days with 1,000+ passengers. For more information on the Waterfront Marketplace, click here.
