Public Assembly Facilities

The Public Assembly Facilities Division is responsible for the scheduling and management of Merrill Auditorium, James A Banks Sr. Portland Exposition Building, Hadlock Field, Ocean Gateway and Maine State Pier. This division provides all event services including front of house and backstage operations as well as security, concessions and custodial services. Prime Tenant contracts include Portland Symphony Orchestra, Portland Ovations, Portland Sea Dogs, Maine Celtics and the Portland School Department. In addition, this division oversees the permitting of events in the City’s parks, open spaces and streets and manages large scale outdoor events including the concerts on the Maine State Pier and the annual July 4th celebration on the Eastern Prom. The division is responsible for over 1,100 events annually.
