Congress Square Park

This urban square was created in the 1980’s to add vitality to the area by creating an open space within the bustling Arts District. The square is home to a large historic clock which was built for Main Central Railroads Union Station which served Portland from 1888-1961. It is a fully operational clock that highlights Portland’s architectural past and urban preservation. Congress Square hosts seasonal special events series featuring live music, dances, and movies in the park. The park features seating, children’s play area, stage, and shade trees. The citizens group “ Friends of Congress Square Park” has played a large role in organizing events and financing improvements in the square since 2013.
